India is a country that I could return to multiple times without seeing everything that would be necessary to have a reasonable understanding of its complex societal structure, religions, and history.
Having flown to Delhi, we boarded a train to Agra early in the morning before throngs of people had time to descend upon the Taj Mahal. This structure, one of the great wonders of the world, took 22 years to construct. It was built by Shah Jahan in memory of his favorite wife, Mymtaz Mahal, who died giving birth to her 14th child. The Taj Mahal was built from tons of marble from Jodhpar and includes semiprecious stones from all over Asia that were transported to the construction site by elephants in the 17th century.
