Republic of South Africa

The Republic of South Africa had been a destination of mine for many years. From Johannesburg, we took the Rovos Rail south to Capetown, seeing flocks of Lesser Flamingos and a diamond mine along the way. After reaching Capetown, we took a ferry to Robben Island, the site of Mandela’s incarceration for 16 years. The next several days were spent seeing Table Mountain, Seal Island, Hout Bay, and False Bay on the Cape of Good Hope. The trip was rounded out with a swing through South African wine country, including the Spier and Spice Route Vineyards.
