Lisa and I have finally reached the Maasai Mara in Kenya, after a long drive from Lake Nikuru. The Mara has been a much anticipated part of out trip, an enormous game reserve-a photographer's dream. This said, today we're headed to the Enkutoto Village in the Rift Valley Province where we'll see an incredible Maasai village. Mui Gai, our guide, has arranged for us to experience the people and culture of this area, a truly remarkable opportunity.
Watching Wildebeest in the Massai Mara
We've arrived in the Massai Mara, the best known game reserve in Kenya. Contiguous with the Serengeti National Park in Tanzania, one of the greatest shows on earth is taking place-namely, the annual "Wildebeest Migration." Having seen this phenomenon in the Lion King movie, I thought I had an inkling of what to expect. I'll have to say, however, that seeing this spectacle in person is something I won't be forgetting anytime soon.
My Fascination with Lions
We're on safari in the Masai Mara in Kenya. Until this trip to Africa, the only big game animals I had ever seen were on television or in a zoo; however, now the zoo is live, in real time and with no cages. Our goal is to see the "Big Five" in this famous reserve where Out of Africa was filmed.
